“Because if you wait long enough on Orcas, everything will come to you.” – an Orcas islander

I like that I am able to sit and wait for the world to come to me, rather than be on a mad scramble to see all there is before  I depart the earthly plane. That is made all the more possible by the fact that I live on an island that attracts things and people I would never see in a normal mainland America world. I’m sure they each may have their moments. I’m just gloating about the happenings that come my way.

So, on Wednesday (late afternoon-ish as I recall), I noticed a mast visible over the top of the hill north of Rosario. When I checked on Vessel Finder to see what was there, the M5 (which seems a woosy name for the tallest ship) was discovered.

My curious research revealed that the M5 is the world’s largest single masted sailing ship.

The 75-metre luxury yacht M5, also known as the Mirabella V, is the world’s largest single-masted sailing yacht, with its mast reaching 86 metres tall, according to a profile on Boat International.

Built in 2004 at an estimated cost of $50 million USD, the yacht is now owned by Texas-based billionaire Rodney Lewis.

One more trip down the research funnel told me all kinds of info I didn’t know I wanted to know, including the factum that M5’s stern was lengthened in the 2013 refit to accommodate a carbon fibre float plane. Yes, there’s that.

That’s all I know about it, but it’s still off-shore Rosario if anyone wants to have a look. And there is more to this story and some gorgeous pictures in clicking the links above.

I  love Orcas!

P.S.
