Join Sustainable Orcas Island (SOI) in celebrating World Food Day, and in support of local food security, on Saturday, October 16, from 5 to 10 pm at Odd Fellows Hall in Eastsound.
Tom Wagner will speak about saving seeds and breeding plants.
Tom is a 5th-generation farmer who is recognized internationally as a local food expert, seed saver, and plant breeder. We invite people to contribute to the potluck with food that has at least one locally grown ingredient.
Set-up begins at 5, the potluck at 5:30, and the program at 7 p.m. The evening is sponsored by the Orcas Island Public Library.

Cool! I came across this link due to my Google Search Alerts.
Needless to say, but I will be bringing seeds of all kinds. Late Blight resistant tomatoes and potatoes are my specialty and I will have seeds of both with me.
As a fifth generation wheat farmer from Kansas but living in the PNW, I hope to interest folks to save their own seeds and eat what they produce. Food security and plant breeding are two subjects dear to my heart. I am, and will continue, to form handshake alliances with growers, no matter how large or small, to be part of a Grower/Breeder Participatory focus group.
I will bring some sample grains of wheat and triticale to the program this Saturday. I should also have some interesting potatoes, too! I am prepared to answer any and all questions.
A PowerPoint presentation will be part of my talk. Hope to see you there. Everyone will get a gift or two. You have to be there to get one.
