Betsy Nelson Art Exhibit Opening Reception at the Orcas Center. 5:30 to 7 p.m.

‘The Lorax’ on-screen at the Seaview TheaterFriday & Saturday at 7:30 pm

The 3D-CGI feature Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.  Voices:  Danny DeVito, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift. Rated:  PG. Call 376-5724.

Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers at Doe Bay Café.  Clark finds people endlessly fascinating, and all her songs dwell on human foibles.  Make a night of it!  Guests with dinner reservations in the Café will get free day use passes to the spa (for use that day only)!  To make dinner reservations, please call the Café at 360-376-8059.

Saturday, April 7

Lions Club Community Easter Egg Hunt –  starting at 10am behind the Orkila Camp Dining Hall.  Follow directional signs.  All islanders are welcome.  There will be over 1,000 eggs to be hunted, with special prizes going to those finding the golden eggs.   Youths are divided in age groups of 1 to 3 years, 4 to 6 years, and 7 to 12 years. We promise a visit from the Easter Bunny and maybe even some Easter Elves!  The hunt will be rain or shine, and remember to dress warm! Alumni Rowing Regatta Saturday at the Orcas Island Rowing boathouse on Cascade Lake. 10 a.m.  Open to all rowers. Just turn up and we will find you a seat to row in.https://orcasislandrowing.org

Great Hoppin’ Saturday Easter Event The Downtown Merchants of Eastsound have again joined forces to organize and present a fun-filled Holiday Event for the enjoyment of both locals and visitors alike!  The activities are designed to appeal to a wide range of ages and interests All are invited, and as always, all the events are free!

Easter Egg Hunt on the lawns of  Deer Harbor Inn 2 p.m. Sponsored by he Deer Harbor Women’s Auxiliary, who will   exchange the eggs the children find for candy and other surprises.

Indian Island Marine Health Observatory Field Research DaysJoin local scientists and community volunteers at Eastsound Waterfront Park in conducting surveys of fish and inter-tidal creatures on low tide days during the spring and summer. Learn about the unique marine life of our home waterfront. 2012 research begins the first Sunday in April with low tide start times as follow:
Beginning this Sunday, April 8  with invertebrate surveys – 11:30 am
~ Monday, April 9 – invertebrate surveys – Noon
~ Tuesday, April 10 – fish seining – 1 pm
~ Wednesday, April 11 – Upland survey (birds, botany)
Everybody is welcome.  Meet at the tide pools around the island. Wear appropriate footwear (wet sand, gravel, shallow water), and come on down to the beach! “Manon” — Metropolitan opera live in HD at the Orcas Center at 1 p.m., Anna Netrebko’s dazzling portrayal of the tragic heroine in Laurent Pelly’s new production travels to the Met from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Piotr Beczala and Paulo Szoat also star with the Met’s Principal Guest Conductor Fabrio Luisi on the podium.  Call 376-2281.
