Description:

The Washington Department of Natural Resources (WA DNR) will join Orcas Island Fire and Rescue (OIFR), San Juan Island Conservation District (SJICD) and community partners to highlight Wildfire Awareness Month in May and encourage residents to prepare for wildfire, connect with their local fire and emergency services, and leverage free resources like Wildfire Ready Neighbors to assess their risk with a local expert.

    • Bud Sizemore, Deputy Director of External Affairs (WA DNR)
    • Fire Chief Chad Kimple (OIFR)
    • Cathi Winnings, Forestry Program Manager (SIJCD)
  • Wildfire Home Assessment Demo: SIJCD will walk through a wildfire home risk assessment at a nearby resident’s property to illustrate common wildfire and ember risks and recommend actions residents can take to prepare. These home assessments are available to San Juan County residents for free at WildfireReady.com.
  • Q&A Session: Engage with the fire chief, wildfire experts, elected officials and residents about getting prepared for wildfire.
