Last night, Orcas Island Fire Commissioners unanimously appointed Scott Williams to fill the Fire Chief vacancy at Orcas Island Fire and Rescue (OIFR).
The action caps an eight-month process following the resignation of Mik Preysz on April 8, 2016. Williams has been functioning as Acting Chief since that time.
The Board, Commissioner Wes Heinmiller notes, felt Williams is the best candidate. He was tabbed after a thorough process for which three finalists were selected.
“We will support him in any means that he needs,” added Heinmiller. “He’s already done a great job establishing a 2017 budget and maintaining a harmonious environment in the department.”
Following the decision, Williams was called back into the room and greeted with a standing ovation from the audience. The appointment takes effect immediately.
