Marc Hennemann, [Republican challenger to U.S. Congressional Representative Rick Larsen], will debate Green Party Write-in Candidate Tyler Vega on Saturday Sept. 24. “Bring It On”, says Hennemann, to the congressional race surprise entrant.

Tyler Vega announced his write-in campaign two weeks ago on social media as part of WashingtonBerniecrat.org’s #WriteInTheRevolution movement. According to Vega’s website, the group is “launching a massive write-in campaign to continue challenging the system for proactive change.”

Democratic Congressman Rick Larsen and Republican Challenger Marc Hennemann were declared the winners of the 2nd Congressional District’s Top Two Primary last month.

The debate will be hosted at Mike Lapointe’s Firewheel Community Coffeehouse in Everett. Lapointe, a Democrat who also challenged Larsen, placed 3rd in this year’s race. he debate moderator will be Brian Luke, Libertarian, who placed 4th in the race. Due to Washington State’s so-called “sore loser” laws, neither Lapointe nor Luke are eligible to participate as a write-in candidate in the general election race.

Congressman Larsen has not responded to any general election debate challenges by the Hennemann or Vega campaigns, nor any previous primary debate challenges by the Lapointe campaign. The Vega campaign immediately accepted Hennemann’s debate challenge.

Hennemann and Larsen will be participating in various candidate forums being hosted by the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and others in October. It’s unclear if these forums will allow write-in candidate participation.
