What could be better than a great day of golf with friends, and a summer barbecue? That’s what could happen to you at the Third Annual Turtleback Open.
This year, the net proceeds will be donated to Roger Weinel and his family. Roger has been a regular at the course for years, and unfortunately recently suffered a stroke while golfing.
The course will be hosting the event on Saturday August 1.
Last year, there were 72 players in the 18-hole Scramble, and the tournament is expected to attract that many or more this year from Orcas and neighboring islands. The Turtleback Open is becoming a major part of our Orcas summer social and sports life, as it attracts visitors to the island as well as providing a very entertaining day for many of our own islanders.
All levels of player experience are encouraged and participants are asked to arrive around 9:30 to check in and get ready for the shotgun start at 10:30. Morning refreshments, a snack sack at the turn and an awards BBQ at the end are all included in the entry fee of $30 for golf course members, $50 for non-members, $15 for Junior/Collegiate Members, and $20 for student non-members 18 and under. Golfers will also receive a gift pack of golf items, and trophies for winning team, longest drive, and closest to the pin will be awarded at the BBQ, along with a bevy of door prizes and a silent auction.
Pre-registration is highly recommended. Singles and Teams (of four) are welcome and encouraged to pre-register as soon as possible. Singles will be assigned to a team or may request a placement preference. Pre-registration and payments can be made at the course or by calling 376-4400 to register by phone with a credit card. For more information, call Justin Taylor 376-4400.
