||| FROM CORY HARRINGTON for EWUA STEWARDSHIP ALLIANCE |||

We are calling upon all concerned EWUA members to attend the upcoming Tuesday board meeting 6/16 5pm at the Firehall.

The EWUA board has rejected calls for a 3rd party investigation into the ongoing crisis of a toxic workplace and continuing operator resignations. This is after:

  • 75+ members showed up to the last EWUA board meeting respectfully calling for an investigation through comment and applause.
  • 140 members signed a public letter to the board calling for an investigation
  • All six of EWUA’s certified operators submitted a public letter to the board which detailed how working at EWUA has gone from a “dream job to a place we dread working,” how their “morale is at an all time low,” that “serious concerns have been dismissed,” and how “this is why operators are leaving and why we are on the brink of losing more.”
  • The operator’s union representative refuted the board’s claim that a 3rd party investigation would interfere with the union contract process.
Two days after the board rejected this call for a 3rd party investigation and ignored the dire warning from the operations staff, another certified operator resigned.
The board is arguing that a 3rd party investigation isn’t warranted as there is insufficient evidence of wrongdoing. But that is not the same as saying there is insufficient evidence of organizational dysfunction.

The evidence of dysfunction is visible to everyone:

• Four certified operators have left in the past eight months.
• Additional office staff have resigned.
• Union negotiations remain unresolved.
• Board meetings are drawing unprecedented public attendance.
• Members seeking transparency are asking questions and receiving few answers.

Please consider attending the public board meeting on Tuesday, 6/16 5pm at the firehall.

If inspired, make a comment that emphasizes the need for an investigation due organizational dysfunction and the crisis of continuing losing our experienced operations staff. Clap when others make comments. As before, we plan on leaving after public comment.

It was powerful to have a standing room only crowd at the last meeting- let’s make that crowd even bigger! Please share this info widely.

Thanks!  from the EWUA Stewardship Alliance
