By Kyle Freeman, Orcas Elementary/Middle School Principal

The Orcas Island School District would like to invite parents and community members to tour the Nellie S. Milton Building (the elementary school) to see the progress of our summer construction project. Tour of the project will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12.

This project is part of a state energy grant awarded to the school district to upgrade and improved the air and water handling systems in the building. Funding for this project has been provided by this grant and a loan from Cashmere Bank and local donors.

At this point air and water handling systems have been removed and are in the process of being replaced. If you would like an opportunity to see what is being done and what has been accomplished so far please join us for a tour starting at 5:30 on July 12th. We will meet at the maple tree for a brief discussion with our project manager regarding safety and to answer questions about the project. If you can’t make it but would like to track the progress of the project pictures have been posted on the districts website orcasislandschools.org and are also posted on a bulletin board in front of the elementary school.

*For your safety we do ask that you wear closed toed shoes and do not bring children for the tour.

**If it wouldn’t cause you financial distress to take out a modestly-priced, voluntary subscription (HERE), you’d be doing a real service. If it would, then no worries, we’re happy to share with you.**
