||| FROM INDIVISIBLE SAN JUANS |||
We are feeling determined and resilient as our resistance grows! Tomorrow, the Free America Walkout starts at 2:00 pm local time.
Our Indivisible San Juan Islands Community, YOU, have been showing up, speaking up, and standing up together! United we stand!
Tomorrow, we invite everyone to join us in the way that works best for you—either in person at the walkout or by supporting from wherever you are. Our combined efforts will make a real impact.
This nationwide protest is organized by the Women’s March, and our event is officially listed here: https://action.womensmarch.com/events/san-juan-island-free-america-walkout
Join us in person if you can! Tuesday, January 20, at 2pm—leave work, school, and commerce to participate in the walkout. Take this action with us to visibly show our collective commitment.
Tomorrow, participate by refusing usual routines through peaceful protest—walk out with us and stand for change.
We Walkout because now is not the time for business as usual.
- Bring your noisemakers! We have some whistles for students, while supplies last, who may join us at the last minute from school. NOTE: Parents and Caregivers must call the school to excuse your student should they want to participate in the Walkout to avoid an unexcused absence:)
- We added our Walkout Route Map. Notice we have a path from the Courthouse Lawn, to Blair St. passing the FHHS, to Spring Street, to 1st St., and back up to the Courthouse area.
- Walk slowly, but loudly! We want to walk together in one large group and be heard as we joyfully resist!
- This is a public event, and photos and video will be taken and shared with media outlets and on social media. Please do what you need to protect yourself, cover your face, etc.
If you can’t attend in person, support us by spreading the word, participating online, or taking local actions to show your solidarity.
We are adding a few additional ACTION ITEMS that anyone can take to support our democracy.
- TIME-SENSITIVE: WA State Legislature: Comment on bills. Leg.wa.gov and Take Action Network
- Call Congress, we know, however, when we flood their phone lines it becomes harder to ignore. CALL the Senate Majority Leader, Republican John Thune, with your thoughts. Congress 1-202-224-3121
- Vote with your money! Support democracy-friendly businesses. Example: Ben & Jerry’s. For company lists, see Instagram: thewokeginger
- Stay engaged and volunteer! Let us know if you’re interested in helping.
With a determination for a better future for all, we thank you, Your Indivisible SJI Team.
P.S. We are trying out Signal Chat for those who gave us their number; watch for a test message. We are also looking into a program for text-based communication. We’ll keep you posted.
