Orcas Center Open House
Saturday, September 18, 1-4 p.m.
||| FROM ORCAS CENTER |||
Over the past year and a half, as Orcas Center has been closed, we have been busy at work renovating our spaces, doing some serious deep cleaning, and refreshing our entire facility.
The Center is looking fantastic and we can’t wait to welcome visitors during our Open House, Saturday September 18, from 1 to 4 p.m.
COSTUME SHOP!
Our core team of Costume Shop volunteers – Dorrie Braun, Liz Kistler, Tiffany Loney, and Bianca Cox, to name a few – were faced with an incredible task: a complete overhaul of our Costume Shop!
They sorted through Orcas Center’s entire collection of costume items, hauled it to a new space, adjacent to the Black Box Theater, and arranged everything on new shelving and rack systems.
We can’t thank these folks enough for making sense of a huge jumble of clothing and accessories!
MADRONA ROOM FLOORING!
Our Madrona Room has seen a lot of use over the years. As our main meeting space and community room, innumerable feet have trod this floor, and its time had come to be restored to its original beauty.
The closure lent the ideal opportunity to cordon off the room and bring in the professionals. After a lot of hard work, this gleaming floor is now ready its first party goers, and we look forward to an abundance of events in the Madrona Room in the (hopefully) near future!
LED LIGHTING & THEATRE FIXTURES!
Over the years LED lighting has become progressively more accessible, while also increasing in quality, making it the industry standard for theater today.
To help us get with the times, volunteer Marty Kaylor spent months changing out hundreds of lightbulbs in our facility with LED bulbs, and also retrofitted a slew of our theater lighting with new high-tech LED fixtures. Marty put a massive dent in the LED swap project, and for that we give him a huge thank you!
PARKING LOT!
The next time you park at Orcas Center we invite you to take a look downward, just below your feet, at that sweet new asphalt and those perfectly painted lot lines.
We are so thankful to have had the entire lot re-leveled, resurfaced, re-striped, and new LED lighting installed here as well. It’s our utilitarian take on the Red Carpet treatment for our patrons, and we can’t wait for you to strut on in!
