Salmonberry School’s 9-11 yr old students will create a live public installation of an original sand mandala in the meeting room of the Eastsound Public Library. The public is invited to observe the creation process from 9-3 on Tuesday and 9-12 on Wednesday.

Auditions at Orcas Center for a community production of the classical musical, Oliver! 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Known around the world as the greatest musical ever written for child actors, Orcas Center is excited about providing a new generation of children this opportunity to shine on stage!

The San Juan County Council will conduct an Early Start Special Meeting in the Legislative Hearing Room, 55 Second Street, Friday Harbor beginning at 8:45AM. Special Meeting Agenda items: (1) Public Hearing on an Ordinance Setting the Fees for Solid Waste Handling Services; (2) Discussion and possible action on contracts with Town of Friday Harbor; Year End Wrap-Up. The Council’s regular meeting agenda will follow and begin at 10:00 AM.

Thursday, December 20

OPALCO Board of Directors will hold its regularly scheduled meeting in the Eastsound OPALCO office, 183 Mt Baker Road, at 8:30 am . All members are welcome to attend. For more information, please contact Bev Madan at 376-3549.

Orcas School Concert, 6:30 p.m. in the Old Gym. The faces of more than 120 children will light up as kindergartners through 4th graders gather for a concert. “Peace” is the theme of this concert, the third in a series of performances by Orcas school musicians.

Indoor Labyrinth Walk, The Emmanuel Episcopal Church will open the doors of its Parish Hall to all from 4 until 6 p.m.

Naomi Wachira at the Doe Bay Café. 7 p.m. Please join us for a wonderful evening of music and delicious local fare! Naomi Wachira was born and raised in a musical family in the small town of Kijabe in the Kenyan Great Rift Valley. At age 5 she joined her parents’ choir, which spurred her love affair with music as a way to not only understand the world, but also express her introverted self. Naomi has developed a songwriting style that is simple and evocative; she blends elements of African rhythm, American folk, and soul, offering her take on issues affecting society and telling her story as an African woman living in the diaspora.
