The Bellingham Mystery Players in "The Thin Man" at the Orcas Center Saturday night

The Midnight Mystery Players in "The Thin Man"radio theater drama at the Orcas Center Saturday night

Orcas Center presents the Midnight Mystery Players from Bellingham in Dashiell Hammett’s The Thin Man, originally adapted in 1936 for the Lux Radio Theater on Saturday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m.

The Thin Man, Hammett’s last novel, is the widely-read detective story featuring the quick-witted, and sardonic duo, Nick and Nora Charles. The characters were featured in a series of popular Thin Man films directed by S.S. Van Dyne.

The Bellingham group of actors, which includes former Orcas Islander Judith Owens Lancaster, has made a regional name for themselves for their delightful staging of vintage radio dramas. Audiences are rewarded with a behind the scenes glimpse of radio drama, the central form of household entertainment before it was replaced by the television.

Setting the time period for The Thin Man will be Orcatrazz and Beth Baker, who will perform such period standards as Chattanooga Choo Choo, Pennsylvania 6-5000, They Can’t Take That Away from Me and Sentimental Journey.

All tickets for the 7:30 pm radio play are $10. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.orcascenter.org or call or 360/376-2281 ext 1 during box office hours, Thursday-Saturday, noon – 4 p.m.
