26th Annual Orcas Fly-In at the Port of Orcas All weekend long there will be takeoffs and landings for lookey-loos and lots of aircraft on display (no touching!)  It’s family fun for everyone!  Snack Shack, Port of Orcas mugs, antique car rally in the day park on Saturday.

Buzzbombs with Jaen Black and Al Bentley at the  ‘no exit’ stage between Darvill’s and Vern’s at 5 p.m.

Our Vast Landscapes art show, opens with a food and music reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Orcas Center

Summer Tango Soiree at Rose’s Café. Tapas, dance performance, vocals and socializing. “Bring your dancing shoes!” $25 limited admission.

Love Letters at the Grange.  Presented by The Actors Theater of Orcas Island with DD Glaze and Fred Whitridge.  Love Letters takes us to a time and place where two people actually communicate through hand written letters to each other.  7:30 p.m. While this play is suitable for all ages, younger children may not understand the issues of this play.  Tickets are $10 and are available at Darvill’s or at the door.  Contact Doug Bechtel at 317-5601.

Saturday, Aug. 1

26th Annual Orcas Fly-In at the Port of Orcas See Friday, July 31. The Airlift Northwest helicopter will also be on display all day Saturday.

Third Annual Turtleback Open.  18-hole scramble  9:30 am sign-in & shotgun start @ 10:30 a.m. All levels of experience are welcome!  Morning refreshments, a snack sack at the turn and an awards BBQ at the end are all included in the entry fee.  Golfers will also receive a gift pack of golf items as well as trophies for winning team, longest drive, and closest to the pin will be awarded at the BBQ, along with a bevy of door prizes and a silent auction.  This year, the net proceeds will be donated to Roger Weinel and his family.  Roger has been a regular at the course for many years, and recently suffered a stroke.

Pancake Breakfast 7 to 11 a.m. at the Eastsound Fire Hall. Cost:  $7 adults, $5 12 years old and under.  This is a fundraiser for the Orcas Island Volunteer Firefighter/EMT Association.

Orcas Island Children’s Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Children’s House & Salmonberry School.  A multitude of activities for children to engage in, from craft tents, sandbox treasure hunts, a cake walk, a bouncy house and more.  This event is a collaborative effort between Children’s House, Kaleidoscope, Orcas Montessori Preschool and Salmonberry School.  All proceeds will be shared between the schools to support their early childhood programs.  Admission is $5.00 per person.  Your admission price gets you five tickets to participate in the various games and activities. Cement Sculpture Class Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be a very intense workshop, so be ready.  Bring old clothes, gloves, and any favorite plastering tools or safety equipment you would like to use.  All materials and tools necessary will be provided. The methods used, and information given, will have application in many other projects.  Under the big top at the upper lot behind Orcas Center.  Cost is $145 plus $50 for supplies. Deposit is required to hold your place; only a few left. Call Mia at 376-2108.
