Ten choreographers. Two towns. One very small stage.
On Stage at Orcas Center, Saturday May 19 at 7:30 pm, Ten Tiny Dances brings ten different choreographers together to create short dances to be performed on a 4 x 4 platform. A simple experiment with infinite results! This special Orcas edition of Ten Tiny Dances will feature seven choreographers from Seattle and three from Orcas including Charles Dalton, Laura Ludwig and Kara O’Toole.
Ten Tiny Dances is curated by selecting interesting artists and not by selecting finished pieces, which always proves to be an exciting unknown. You put your faith in the artists, give them an experiment and let them run with it. Because we’ve gotten some sneak peeks, this is what we do know: This show is mostly, but not all, solos featuring mostly, but not all, work by female choreographers. Some will be funny, some deeply psychological, and some will rock. It is truly a variety show.
Ten Tiny Dances℠ was founded in Portland, Ore. by Mike Barber and is produced with permission in Seattle, WA, by Spaeth Projects. Since 2002, Barber has produced over 25 editions in some of Portland’s most in irresistibly festive environments, and supported the work of over 150 dance and performance artists. In 2005, Barber expanded the project by producing a two-city exchange with Seattle’s Crispin Spaeth Dance Group, a successful collaboration which continues with Spaeth Projects. Barber continues to produce Ten Tiny shows in Portland, and collaborates with other producers in Seattle, Tacoma, Bethlehem, Penn., Columbus, Ohio and Orange County, Calif. www.tentinydances.org
