Katrina and Ted Wheeler, new Mayor of Portland, Oregon

Ted Wheeler was elected Mayor of Portland, Oregon on Tuesday, May 16. He won by nearly
60 percent of the vote in the Primary race, and will take over the Mayor’s office on January 1, 2017.

He was endorsed by three of Portland’s last Mayors, and although the office is not political per se, he appears to have had solid support from both sides of the political aisle.

The Wheeler family has had a home on Orcas for many years, and Ted claims to be 100 percent Pacific Northwest as a sixth-generation Oregonian. Wheeler currently serves as Oregon State Treasurer, and has been involved in public service in recent years at the County and State level. He served as Chair of Multnomah County Board of Commissioners from 2007-2010 when he was appointed to the office of State Treasurer.

He graduated from Stanford University with advanced degrees from Columbia University and The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

He has also snow-shoed to the North Pole, climbed Mt. Everest and participated in the Ironman competition.
