New this year are Sunday afternoon workshops with Brazilian master pianist, composer and three-time Latin Grammy nominee Jovino Santos Neto and exuberant drummer/percussionist, composer and educator Jeff Busch. The September 1 workshops are free of charge and open to people of all ages, but students are especially encouraged to participate, and registration is required. To register for the percussion workshop (3:30 to 4:45 p.m.) go to oijfpercussionworkshop.rsvpify.com. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get one-on-one guidance from two jazz greats!
This year’s festival will feature Pearl Django and guest artist Gail Pettis on Friday night, Martin Lund and the Off-Island All-Stars on Saturday night and Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto on Sunday night. (Get there early on Sunday for a pre-concert talk by Jovino starting at 6:45 p.m.).
In past years all nights of this Jazz Festival have sold-out. So you’ll want to get your tickets early.
