Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 a.m. at Island Skillet
— from Chris White —
This Friday at 7 a.m. will be the monthly gathering of Sunrise Volunteers at the Island Skillet with Pete Moe as our featured speaker. As usual Orcas Island Lions will sponsor free coffee to the attendees. All are welcome to attend.
Join us at breakfast at the Island Skillet at 7 am this Friday to share stories of volunteering and Pete’s plan for restoring the “Exchange.”
All who might be interested in lending a helping hand when it works for them and/or who see a project that fits, please email cweyes@me.com so I can coordinate efforts! If you have questions, ask an Orcas Lion or me.
Once again I personally wish to thank all of you who make up the “Sunrise Volunteers”!

A while back I put in writing in a forum like this the fact that I would install all necessary wiring involved in getting the exchange back in business for FREE. Now I know I am not that easy to deal with for many people but FREE IS FREE especially that this is a prevailing wage job. Probably tens of thousands of dollars for electrical by the time all is said and done. I will be on the redeye Friday but when you have this Kumbaya gathering and we are short hundreds of thousands of dollars one might reflect on why my offer was not accepted. I am a master electrician with the legal documents to wire anything in this state. My 21 year old is playing cello in The Boston Symphony Orchestra. I think I could have handled this project. One wonders how much more money is being wasted when FREE isn’t good enough.
I started to think about this more and there is no reason that we can;t buy a semi constructed building package from a company in Ferndale and have it assembled by volunteer labor for FREE.
