— from Mary Getten —
Orcas Island recently lost a beloved “man about town”. The little white ball of fur known as Sunny, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack on July 17th. He has been the constant and loving companion of Indira Monk for 12 years. They were often seen downtown at the Post Office, Farmer’s Market, Pawki’s, or anywhere on the island.
Sunny was very sweet and totally devoted to Indira, never leaving her side. While he enjoyed walks in Moran State Park, North Beach and Crescent Beach, he wouldn’t go with anyone else, not even his best friends. He loved it when people came to visit, but he wasn’t going to leave the house with someone else – no way no how!
Some of Sunny’s happiest times were chasing sticks into the water on North Beach, or greeting people at the old Chez Chloe or the Orcas Island Artworks when Indira worked there. He loved people, and he was eager to meet anyone. He will be greatly missed by Indira, his neighbors in Bonnie Brae and the Orcas Island Community.
Farewell sweet Sunny. May you find many good sticks wherever you go.

Oh, Indira. My heart goes out to you.
Rest in peace sweet Sunny. I didn’t know you but I know that our furry loved ones catch our heartstrings and don’t ever let go. I feel for your human family and send sweet dog love their way.
Oh sweet Sunny – we miss you! Merry
Indira, I always enjoyed your visits to the OPAL office. He was such a dapper Guy. Your Christmas card picture of him was always on top of the file cabinet to greet guests.
With fond memories of you both, Carol
Indira, I remember Sunny’s devotion to you when he was a young tyke at the store. He was small but Mighty! His Spirit is with you still and loving you as always! Spirit Eagle
