Sucia Island plane crash up close shows bystanders’ heroics

The only thing obvious at this point about this crash is the larger tragedy averted. The brief and very opportune phone video explains a lot about potential causal factors in this near disaster. A dead prop emergency landing fully loaded that began some minutes before. It certainly appears that the pilot chose to avoid a deep water landing but was constrained by many vessels on anchor at Shallow Bay. The plane was skillfully wrestled to a smooth landing but with no where to run out. What we see then in more video with a man at the door of the plane on crumpled gear and people sitting nearby with good samaritans arriving by dingies and small boats seems all too calm somehow given that we now know that the plane would be engulfed in avgas burning flames before long. The story of multiple vacationers approaching this very dangerous scene to pick up folks and raft up to triage and treat 11 traumatized and injured passengers away from the imminent fire danger to be accessible to agency responders is nothing short of astounding. What incredible luck that so many highly skilled citizens were present and quickly engaged. I hope that the full first-hand story as it unfolded in will be soon forthcoming, especially the apparent heroic efforts of the pilot to avoid a stall and avoid crashing into boats as well as convergent citizen efforts, that should comfort us as to the better nature of people in an unexpected disaster. I am so impressed.
