Something very unique is happening in our little sports world today.
This morning, the Lady Vikings Volleyball team will head to Lopez to play against the Lobos in a non-conference match between the two schools. There is little doubt that the girls on both sides of the net will play hard and fight for their team. The unusal part comes after the game…
Following the Volleyball game, both teams will set aside their individual school pride and root for their fellow students as the Orcas and Lopez boys take the field, together, in what will be Lopez Island High School’s Homecoming Football game. The activities today will both challenge and broaden our athletes definition and concept of the terms team, pride and unity.
There are many take-aways from this season of High School athletics. From personal acheivement on the part of our athletes, to growth on the part of teams, to creative thinking on the part of our schools and relentless dedication on the part of our parents and community members. No matter what your take-away is, the underlying current is that through our athletic programing our student athletes are benefiting, learning and growing from the experiences that you all have made possible.
Thank you to all of you for your support and dedication to the Student Athletes of our collective communities! and as Always…
Go Vikings AND Lobos!
