Scenes from the Orcas Island, WA, Summer Solstice Parade

Everyone is invited to celebrate the 20th Annual Summer Solstice Parade on Saturday June 23rd at noon in Eastsound. The theme is “Animals, Plants and Bugs,” a reprise of their very first year of this merriment.

The always colorful, whimsical procession will once again glide, swirl, and dance on Main Street to North Beach Road and loop into the Village Green. Immediately following the parade, join the conga line on the Green. The fun continues with more music and dance.

Anyone wishing to participate in the parade, there is no registration. Please just show up by 11:30 a.m. on Haven Road. Haven intersects Main Street and signage will point the way. Volunteers will be on hand to help participants find a place in the line-up.

The parade is a foot parade, including bicycles, wagons, carts, and people-powered floats. Please no motorized vehicles, livestock, or written words. A family friendly event to welcome summer, Orcas style.

A Costume Making Workshop is being held at the Exchange on Wednesday, June 20 from 5-8 p.m. Materials and design help will be provided. Free and open to all.

For more information or to volunteer please call Laura Gibbons at (360) 376-5458. Happy summer.
