Skagit Valley College Foundation is honored to announce that a new endowed scholarship has been established. The Shayla K. Martin Memorial Scholarship was established by Shayla’s daughter, Tanya Young, to honor the life of her mother, who was a victim of the Cascade Mall shooting.

Tanya, a Skagit Valley College alum, wants to help as many students as she can attend SVC —
and succeed — just like her mother helped her. The Shayla K. Martin Memorial Scholarship will helpmake the educational dreams come true for many students. The first scholarships will be awarded next spring.

“Creating a scholarship in memory or honor of a loved one is a beautiful way to create a lasting
legacy that will impact the lives of countless students in need for years to come,” said Anne Clark,
Vice President of College Advancement and Executive Director for SVC Foundation.

“Tanya’s substantial gift will ensure that her mother’s light will continue to shine brightly forever.”
