The San Juan County Parks, Recreation, and Fair Department is pleased to announce updates to the camping reservation system that seek to provide an easier user interface, better sorting options of campsites, and more efficient administrative processing. These changes will delay the reservation window for residents and group camping from January until mid-to-late spring. The department will provide updates on reservation windows by March 10, 2025.
“We hope eager campers can be patient during this time of transition as we work to make the system easier for both users and admin staff,” said Parks and Fair Director Brandon Andrews. “We know January is an ideal time to plan your County Park visits and we will return to our regular schedule in 2026. In the meantime, we’re working as quickly as we can to roll out a new system this Spring that will serve us well for years to come.”
The department is eager to streamline the resident reservation program that gives early access to locals. Large groups will also be able to reserve specific group campsites online, rather than coordinating with staff. In addition, when the reservation window opens in Spring of 2025, campers will be able to make reservations through October 31, instead of the 90-day window of availability that is currently in place.
Staff will be testing the program in early 2025 with an anticipated launch date in mid-late spring. Exact dates for the resident reservation program, group camping, and reservations for the general public will be announced when the software update is nearing completion.
