Saturday, 11/9 burglary – residential at 23:17
There is more to this story. The residents heard a noise at night and looked out to see a man hunched down right next to the unlocked front door. He wore a mask and hoodie. He was carrying a large knife. The dog was barking up a storm. The man stared through the door window for a good two minutes, then decided to leave.
Orcas, we have a very serious problem!
Suspicious activity, prowlers, multiple stolen vehicles, illegal tree harvesting, trespass, multiple hit and runs, residential burglary, vandalism, domestic disturbance, harassment, unwanted persons… I’d say we have a problem. The few spoil it for the many.
And thanks go out to our local deputies for their quick response, their due diligence, their professionalism, and their help during our times of need… may it always be so. You guys rock.
Well, the guy got away and arrest has bern made
The question we should be asking is why has our community gone from safe and peaceful to assaults with deadly weapons? Most folks did not lock there home and often left their keys in their cars. Not anymore!
Make that the guy got away and no arrests have been made.
The police report
The police report gives no indication of how serious this incident really was. Is the drug and crime situation worse than we are being told?
What can we do about this as a community?
Even in our isolated, privileged, affluent and entitled bluestate bubble, we are not immune to the social and economic disaster unleashed by unchecked immigration. Not to mention the inflation unleashed by unchecked dollar-printing by the feds to support radical social engineering experiments.
I have on more than one occasion witnessed human beings who were clearly desperate, homeless and probably hungry trudging along Orcas Road, Deer Harbor Road and Crow Valley Road. They carried backpacks. I always drive slowly when passing them (unlike our local Tesla drivers) and it breaks my heart.
I harbor no ill will to any undocumented person and I am grateful for what they do for us in our inbred local economy that induces the best and brightest young people to seek their future elsewhere.
What we see now has been happening everywhere since the Biden/Harris/Mayorkas regime decided to unilaterally restructure the demography of our once proud, safe and free country to facilitate their political ambition. When my neighbors here (who are all good people) decry the undeniable finality of the recent election, I wonder what world they see. Like ripples on a pond, the waves from a lawless regime have finally broken on our shore.
When I moved to Seattle 40 years ago, I thought it was most beautiful, creative and interesting city in the world. I lived in Ballard overlooking Shilshole Bay, sailed every Wednesday night and fathered my only child. When my flights from the East were landing at SeaTac, i gave silent thanks for my good fortune.
Seattle has literally been destroyed under the Inslee disadministration. At the time of the George Floyd uprisings, our governor declined to mobilize the National Guard to protect our state’s most valueable city despite three (yes three) days warning from the burning of Minneapolis under Tim Walz. After the “Summer of Love” businesses fled Seattle after absorbing $2 billion in losses. Yep, that’s a number with nine zeros. Those businesses, and the customers who visited them, are never ever coming back. Those streets in front of the former Nordstom and Bon Marche reek of urine and excrement.
I had to spend some time on Capitol Hill in Seattle a couple of times in the recent past for surgeries at at Swedish. I stayed at the Silvergate or Silverplate (whatever) Hotel a couple of blocks away. One time we walked past the hedge adjoining Seattle University from the city sidewalk on our way to the hospital. Out of nowhere, a formerly-human creature leaped into our path clutching some kind of pointy object. My companion screamed and he squirmed back into the shrubbery.
When I hear leftist politicians call for “unity” I pray for our nation and our survival in this time of political division. There can be no unity with hatefulness.
I am grateful to Lin for providing a forum for at least some conservative voices to be expressed in a world of media disinformation and deceit.
If you still harbor hate, clutch your precious pearls and blast me on this forum and tell me why I am wrong.
Otherwise, join me in my prayer for our nation and our.world.
Well what would you suggest we do about things here on our small island?
Specifics please.
Scott Hallquist’s monologue checked off most of the boxes on my “Conservative Outrage Bingo Card”
• Economic disaster (by any metric, the economy is doing very well)
• Unchecked immigration (Biden’s admin has deported more people than Trump’s)
• Biden/Harris/Mayorkas regime (as if we’re living in a dictatorship now)
• Our once proud, safe and free country (everything’s so terrible, woe is me)
• Inslee disadministration (he won three elections in a row)
• George Floyd uprisings (most people aren’t stuck on this 4+ years later)
• The burning of Minneapolis (this didn’t actually happen)
• A formerly human creature (the casual demonization of others)
• Join me in prayer (the “appeal to heaven”)
This is basically a Trump speech… Scott, it might be time to come up with some new material, we’ve heard it all before.
Well said Mr. Halquist!
Problem is those who have “heard all before” don’t listen.
Why not start from where we are today (thr Nov 9 assault with a deadly weapon right here on Orcas) and find local solutions?
Why not leave the political past behind? Hashing over the political gains or losses, depending on which side you were on are not solutions.
Do we really want our islanders dealing with these sorts of incidents? Why are drugs so prevalent? Why are there people living in the woods? Are our community services getting the outcomes we want as we help people in need?
