Washington State University Extension (WSU) and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are hosting a forestry field day for people who own forested and wooded property in the San Juan Islands. Learn about forest issues specific to the San Juan Islands, how to foster healthy and resilient forest conditions, and how to achieve your goals for your property. The field day will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday,
September 27, on private forestland near Friday Harbor.
This all-day out-in-the-woods event will feature workshops, demonstrations, tours, and resources on a variety of topics for forest property owners of all experience levels. Participants can attend up to five workshops taught by state and local experts. Over a dozen different topics will be offered, including forest insects and diseases, fire risk reduction, thinning, wildlife, invasive weed control, and more. The Field Day will also feature exhibits by local agencies and organizations that assist owners of forested property, as well as opportunities to network with
fellow forest stewards.
Pre-registration is required. Registration will not be available on site. The registration deadline is 5:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2025. The registration fee is $30 per individual or $45 per couple from the same household/ownership. Youth under 18 are welcome and may attend at no additional cost.
