Wednesday, October 3, 1:30 p.m., Orcas Senior Center
— from Sara Boyle for Orcas Senior Center —
Senior citizens, especially those with medical issues and limited mobility, can be vulnerable in the event of a disaster. In an emergency, would your elderly family members or clients be prepared to stay safely in place for a few days or leave their homes on short notice—even if you couldn’t get to them?
As part of its Senior Preparedness new initiative, the Orcas Senior Center Nonprofit invites all families, companions and caregivers of seniors to attend a special presentation about this important topic.
Dave Halloran (San Juan County Emergency Management) and Krista Bouchey (OPALCO) will provide information about how you and your elders can prepare for emergency / disaster situations. Krista will talk about how to manage power outages, including special considerations for those dependent on electrical medical equipment. Dave will discuss with us how to help seniors stay safe at home until help arrives or prepare to leave if necessary.
Please join us and the Hearts and Hands program volunteers on Wednesday, October 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Orcas Senior Center, 62 Henry Road in Eastsound. The class is free and open to all. No pre-registration is necessary.
