— from the Coalition for Orcas Healthcare —
The Coalition for Orcas Healthcare is pleased to announce its second Town Hall Meeting on Monday, December 18, from 5:30- 7:00 PM, in the Orcas Island Public High School Cafeteria. Residents are invited to hear more information and voice questions about the proposed Public Hospital District (PHD). The focus of this meeting will be how a PHD functions in a rural community like Orcas. The following presenters will share their experiences and answer questions:
Ben Lindekugel – Executive Director, Association of Washington Public Hospital Districts. Mr. Lindekugel will explain how PHDs work in Washington and how they can support health care services in rural communities.
Christa Campbell – PHD Commissioner, Lopez Island. Last April, Lopez residents voted to create a new Hospital District. Ms. Campbell will explain what it’s like to start a new PHD and what it can mean for their community.
Sandy Robertson – Superintendent, Mason County PHD #2. Ms. Robertson will speak about how her District works, her role as superintendent, and the benefits and challenges of a rural PHD that has no hospital.
Future Town Hall Meetings will be as follows:
o Wednesday, January 24th — Financial and Economic Implications of a PHD
o February (date to be announced) — PHD Commissioner Candidates’ Forum
o Wednesday, March 14 — 2nd PHD Commissioner Candidates’ Forum
The Coalition hopes for a large attendance and asks readers to spread the word to neighbors and friends. For more information, please check the Coalition’s website: https://www.coalitionfororcashealthcare.com

Looking forward to Monday’s Town Hall. Needing more information on how a PHD will interface with our diverse community of healthcare providers and how Integrative Care is recognized. Is a PHD for acute care only? Or do we tax ourselves inservice to creating a more comprehensive and intergrated healthcare operation?
The Healing Arts Center, and our Naturopathic Docs, Acupuncturists and Chiropractors are providing healthcare services, preventive and acute care, and how are they included in this plan?
