Bahia In Motion, a Brazilian dance organization based in Seattle, comes to Orcas Island with their presentation of “Abrindo Caminhos” (Opening Pathways) on Saturday, September 30 at 7 p.m.

Bahia In Motion’s work is firmly rooted in the importance of a balanced body, mind and spirit and the integral role the arts play in nurturing this balance. Driven by the belief that individuals and families thrive when they feel healthy, engaged and part of something larger than themselves, Bahia in Motion will also be offering workshops in collaboration with the Orcas Dance Collective. These workshops are on September 29 at Orcas Center and October 1 at Doe Bay Resort. Contact studio@bahiainmotion.com for more information.

The pieces from Bahia In Motion’s Orcas Island show: Abrindo Caminhos (Opening Pathways), spans several cultural traditions from Brazil:  Dances of the Afro-Brazilian Orixas from Bahia, Capoeira, the Brazilian Martial Art born out of the resistance against slavery in Salvador Bahia and Maculelê, Capoeira’s signature dance, Xaxado from the northeast region of Pernambuco, and Samba, with its roots in Bahia which spread to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and throughout the world.

Ticket prices range from $15-$59. Call 360-376-2281 ext 100, or visit www.orcascenter.org for tickets and more information.
