I happened by Orcas School this Labor Day morning about 9 a.m. and found a merry band of volunteers organized by past school board member Bill Wulff, who were hard at work power washing the entry sidewalks and cafeteria loading dock, weed eating, and general clean up in preparation for the opening for classes on Wednesday.

The finishing touch was repainting the curbs in bright yellow, blue, red, and white…colors which designate various parking and no parking zones.

The group, which included new School Superintendent Eric Webb, consisted of parents and students.

They worked throughout the holiday, just finishing up the painting at 4:30.
