— from the Orcas Island School District —

It is with heavy hearts that we follow the news coming out of Oso and Darrington. It appears that many of victims of this tragedy are parents, students, and community members from the Darrington School District. As long time members of the same athletic league our communities have been connected by competition for many years. Many of our students and families have built connections to the Darrington community through travel and competition.

We would like all OISD families to know that we have school counselors available to speak with any students who have questions or are affected in any way by this news. Tragedies of this magnitude can bring about numerous questions and concerns and we are here to provide the support and care that any student may need.

The Orcas Island Booster Club and Orcas Island High School and Middle School students are organizing a fundraiser in support of the stricken communities. Go to: orcasissues.com/vikings-step-up-ask-for-your-contributions for more details.

Thank you,
Orcas Island School District
