Fund raising rally throughout the community this Tuesday, March 25, 4—6 p.m.
— from Justin Paulsen and Orcas Island High School Spring Sports and the Orcas Island Booster Club ; update March 24 at 10 a.m. —
The plan for Tuesday afternoon was fairly standard for an early spring day at Buck Park: The Viking Spring Sports teams would be battling with their rivals, the Darrington Loggers, in the first league match-up of the season. Instead, the games have been cancelled and the Loggers find themselves in a battle that is far more important as they face the devastation that has recently hit their community.
While we cannot begin to imagine the difficulties that Darrington and the surrounding community are going through, we know that in the Orcas Community, we step in and help when help is needed. Darrington may be our rivals on the field, but off the field they are an important part of our school athletic community.
In this spirit of community, the Orcas Viking Spring Sports teams, along with the Orcas Island Booster Club, will hold a fund raising rally throughout the community this Tuesday from 4:00-6:00 collecting donations to support the Red Cross relief efforts in the Darrington and Arlington communities.
Following the fund drive, all proceeds will be delivered immediately to the local Red Cross, and the Jerseys will be delivered to the Darrington community as a show of support from their friends on Orcas.
We hope that everyone can come by and share a small bit of their Viking Pride with those who need it most!
and – Go Loggers!

Very classy! As always.
Thanks to Justin & Amber, Booster Club and especially the coaches & players of the spring sport teams!
Vikings “Stepping up to the plate for Darrington” update:
Viking athletes will be stationed at Island Market, Country Corner and at the Teezers intersection (more locations pending) collecting donations in support of the Red Cross relief efforts in Darrington from 4-6:00 Tuesday.
Viking Jerseys will be at the Country Corner and Island Market locations for everyone to sign and/or write messages of support on. ALL proceeds will go directly to the Red Cross and the Jerzees will be delivered to the Darrington and Arlington communities to show our support.
Our Batting Helmets will come off Tuesday in support of those affected by this disaster so that we can fill them with your donations! Even if you can only give a kind message to those affected, please come out and show them what Viking Pride is all about!
Go Loggers!
Members of the Vikings Baseball, Softball and Golf teams will be placed at all of the main intersections throughout town, the Market, Country Corner, and the ferry landing area from approximately 4pm-6pm. Prepare to have your donations in hand as you drive through town. Checks should be made payable to The American Red Cross. Thank you Orcasians for supporting our kids as they support our neighbors.
This just in from Keri Lago at The Sequel and Cherry T’s:
1/2 of all proceeds from sales tomorrow will go to support the cause!
Come to town, buy some clothes, leave a message of support and “Step up to the Plate”!
Thanks Keri. You guys get it!
Justin:
What is the mailing address for the booster club? I thought I had it at one point, but when I got home, I couldn’t find it on the web site. And if I don’t send in a check, my sister will kill me!
Thanks,
Galen
PS. I’ve never been able to use PayPal.
Galen —
The Booster Club address is:
Orcas Island Booster Club
PO Box 217
Olga, WA 98279
Thanks Janet!
Galen, thank you too. If you don’t want to mail a check, you can go to http://www.orcasboosters.org and contribute on-line.
And by the way… I think your contribution may beat Patty’s to the bank (not that we are keeping track or anything!)
