There will be a special Orcas Island School District (OISD) board workshop with the Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) tonight, Wednesday, June 3rd, beginning at 5:30 pm in the school library.
Program cut discussions are on the agenda. PTSA President Barb Skotte says, ” If the school library, athletics, transportation, food service, etc. are important to you, this is a meeting you will want to attend.”
The school district is facing about $400,000 in expenditure reductions to meet its $5 million budget. Teachers have been notified of reductions in force (RIFs) affecting thier classes and programs, and the school board and BAC have been working with school business manager Ben Thomas to cut some budget items in order to retain and reinstate school porgrams and staff.
