Decision on new board member postponed

The Orcas Island School District (OISD) Board decided on Wednesday, May 12, to submit a bond proposal for the August 27 county election for $27 million dollars.

“ The Board has listened to what the public was saying and we’ve pulled out everything from the previous bond amount that could be pulled out and still keep a viable project to address the health and safety issues of the campus,” said OISD Board President Scott Lancaster.

The bond term agreed upon by the Board is 25-years, which results in a 54-cent mill rate per thousand assessed value.

The Board postponed selection of an at-large OISD Board Director to a later date; the candidates for the position, vacated last month by Keith Whitaker, are Bob Connell, Marian O’Brien and Jim Sullivan.
