The Salmonberry School students parade a traditional Chinese dragon through Eastsound.

Students from Salmonberry School celebrated the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Snake, by parading under a traditional Chinese New Year’s Dragon today, February 11.

The Salmonberry primary class created an amazing 30-foot-long dragon made of mostly recycled materials, and paraded it through Eastsound, adding great cheer to an otherwise cold, grey February day.

Andrea Cohen, who helped organize the event, says, “It was nice to do something gaudy and colorful  on such a grey, grim day.

“It was so cheering; everyone came up to us and told us it made their day.”
