||| FROM JONI & JOHN TRUMBULL |||
Very dear friends and neighbors,
Joni and I would like to announce that as of November 30th, the old fire station building that Roses Bakery Cafe inhabited over these past years in Eastsound has new owners. Erin Gainey and Philip Kramer of Deer Harbor will be embarking on their new enterprise in the new year, and we are eager to watch its unfoldment. We welcome them into the business community, and look forward to becoming their good customers.
Also at this time we would like to let you know that we have been deeply touched by the recent outpouring of gratitude, love, and fond memories that have been shared regarding what Roses has meant to you over these past 30 years. It could not have existed without your wonderful support. We share these warm memories with you.
Finally, Joni and I would like to share our deepest gratitude to the many wonderful workers who made Roses what it was,- baking the great breads and desserts, cooking the delicious dishes, maintaining a welcoming environment, helping you to stock your larder, and prepare for your special occasions. Thank you, dear Roses crew!!!

While this is great news, we all know it will not be the same without you two. We hope all is well with you and are getting a well deserved rest, and look forward to supporting the new owners.
Thanks John and Joni! Best wishes as you move forward with your lives.
Thank you, John and Joni. Your great food, first class service, and unlimited cheerfulness will be missed, and a tough act to follow.
How wonderful to welcome new energy into a beloved spot where so many of us have enjoyed memorable times and treats! The legacy will happily live on!
This is so exciting!!! Erin and Philip are wonderful Islanders and will carry forward the loving care you all have given to nourishing our Islanders.
It’s a new year coming!!!!
I join John and Joni in welcoming Erin and Phillip to the Eastsound business community. I thank the Trumbulls for providing our Island with a great restaurant and a great deli. I remember dining at an earlier Roses location as early as 1994. Michell and I held the first board meeting of our new corporation at the “new” Roses, as we were buying The Office Cupboard. While we have appreciated Roses, we have appreciated even more all that John and Joni have done for our West Sound neighborhood and for our Island. They have helped build Orcas into what it is today!
John and Joni, I’ve missed your goodies (OH! MY!) but I’ve missed you, too! I’ve told myself to be grateful for the many years of yum you have supplied to me and so many of our islanders. So go, enjoy and know we are grateful and miss you! Oh, and some of your yummies!
Wishing you both everything good. We will miss you and hope to still see you around the Island. Best wishes always!
Deep thanks to John and Joni and all the staff who contributed to the beautiful, welcoming, and tasty experience that was Rose’s Cafe! My family and friends fondly remember each meal we shared at Rose’s as a special occasion and all the wonderful provisions available for takeout from the Deli & Bakery.
On every visit we have made to Orcas we have eaten at Roses at least once as well as secured provisions for eating/cooking at our rental. I guess tourists might have given you a few bucks over the years so please thank us as well. We appreciated your hospitality.
John and Jonni, You made Roses one of the true gems of Orcas Island. You will be missed. Warmest best wishes and thanks.
John Jonni–Thanks for making Roses not only a fine restaurant and bakery, but a warm and friendly gathering place over the years–truly an Orcas social center. Best wishes with whatever comes next for you both.
John and Jonni, I have appreciated your baked goods and smiling faces since arriving to live on Orcas in June, 2017. I will miss seeing you and your staff at the bakery counter while I dawdle over what to buy. My usual requests, garlic parsley walnut bread, chocolate chip walnut cookie, orange brioche, mustard, prosciutto—those items are in my memory bank forever! I wish you well.
I just want to add my thanks to John and Joni for providing us with bread and good soups and foods for so long, ever since I moved to the island. And particularly I have a very fond memory of a beautiful evening fundraiser for the Museum that we held at Roses with John and Joni’s help, of course. It was one of the more lovely events that I planned for the Museum and I am grateful to Roses for providing such a wonderful venue and food for our event all these many years ago. I miss you guys!!
