Rollie Sauer and Carl Yurdin have been appointed commissioners on the newly-expanded Eastsound Sewer and Water District Board.

The ESWD board was expanded from three to five commissioners in last November’s election.

On Tuesday, Feb.  24, the three members of the Eastsound Sewer and Water District (ESWD) Commissioners — Mike Stolmeier, Dave Mowrey and Ed Sutton, voted and passed a resolution appointing Sauer and Yurdin to the two vacancies.

“Things are going to change; it’s hard to say how,” said Sue Kimple, Office Manager and plant technician at ESWD.

ESWD has been working with the County to come into compliance with requirements of the Growth Management Act (GMA) as it affects the Eastsound Urban Growth Area (UGA). At issue is the extension of urban-level services (sewer lines) in the ESWD district beyond the Eastsound UGA bondaries.

The ESWD has maintained that the extension of sewer lines beyond UGA boundaries is part of their commitment to maintain the quality of the Eastsound aquifer water.
