A dear friend has passed. Robin has been a friend since we moved here 25 years ago. Grateful for her in our lives.
Robin was one of the first friends my daughters and I made when we came to Orcas 35 years ago. She was a kind, funny woman and a super talented illustrator and singer! A few may remember the poster illustration she drew for my original play, The UnTaming of the Shrew – so sensitive and beautiful! She was loved and will be missed.
I am sorry that a very special friend has left us, but she has left us all with many wonderful stories and smiles. I am glad we had a visit recently as we just got caught up with what was happening in our lives. Robin you were so talented and blessed me with your many gifts of writings, note cards and special verses. Your star will shine within me for a very long time.
Much beloved, Robin, so thoughtful and positive and kind and talented, I was often moved by her generosity thoughtfulness and humor, I am so sad that we’ll now be without her sweet self. RIP Robin
Dearest Robin,
I wish I would have told you when we last spoke a few weeks back how much your friendship meant to me. Your positive yet pragmatic advice was always welcome and your bright smile and poetic words lightened my life. I love, and I miss you.
Sincerely,
Jami
Robin befriended me when i first lived on Orcas. G.O. got her old tipi and she showed me how to set-it up. i lived in it for 2 summers. So many similar feelings of appreciation. I loved seeing her many friendship from Clara Abrahamson (sp?) to the travelling young women she took in; all the old, thick ties across the island. she knew about the difference between value and worth and respected both. she really packed it in, gave it space and took good care.
The above comments perfectly describe my long-time neighbor.
Being age 93, and a guy, I have fortunately been the recipient of many, many pastries from a long list of talented female bakers.
However, Robin’s cakes and pies were outstanding, the best I have ever had!
They were top of the line, and always looked forward to!
And now I’m stuck with Marie Callender . . . .
One of the wonderful things about Robin was her ability to reach across the age gap to build strong connections with friends many years younger than she. Speaking as one of her 30/40-something friends…Robin, thank you for your friendship and wisdom. May we aspire to a legacy of friendship and teaching as meaningful as yours. You will always be part of the Doe Bay community. RIP.
It has taken a bit of time to respond as I was so surprised to hear of her passing. It saddened me greatly. It seems I have become a little too busy to see the forest for the trees sometimes. Just a reminder of how precious life is and how we need to tell each other “I love you and care about you”. Robin was a special flower in our Orcas Garden of women and men. She was always bright and interesting and interested. I came to know her when I was a partner at the art works years ago. She was a lovely lady with a twinkle in her eyes. . A loss for so many.
