Coming off one of the most difficult budget writing sessions in state history, Sen. Kevin Ranker, D-Orcas Island, is reaching out to constituents in the 40th Legislative District with a pair of town hall-style forums that will discuss Washington’s ongoing budget challenges and the effects on K-12 education, social services and other programs critical to local communities.

The first will be held in Bellingham at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Fairhaven Middle School.

“It is more crucial than ever that the lines of communication between the Legislature and citizens remain wide open,” Ranker said. “Since last session, the public has felt the impact of an all-cuts budget upon their everyday lives.”

“I look forward to engaging with the public at these forums in a dialogue about our priorities as a state. Each forum will consist of a presentation on the state budget, what we are facing and its effect on our communities.”

Presentations will be comprehensive, but brief to reserve significant time for questions from the public.
