Public Hearing continued on proposed Ordinance No. 1841 | New regulations for short term rentals

The Friday Harbor Town Council is accepting public testimony on proposed Ordinance No. 1841, which would establish new regulations for accommodations of 30 days or less. The proposed regulations would apply to hotels, bed and breakfasts, vacation rentals, and other short-term rentals. The Council opened the public hearing on August 6, 2026, and continued the hearing to August 20, 2026, to allow additional time for the public to provide input.

Community members may provide testimony:

• In person at the continued public hearing on August 20, 2026, or
• By email to the Town Clerk at clerk@fridayharbor.org. Written testimony must be received before 9:00 a.m. on August 20, 2026.

A six-month moratorium on new transient rental permits within the Town took effect on December 10, 2025. Following a public hearing on February 5, 2026, the Town Council voted to continue the moratorium. The moratorium affects new building permits and land use applications for transient rental accommodations. Existing permitted transient rentals will not be affected.
