The Orcas Island School District Parent-Teacher-Student-Association (PTSA) has formed a “Weekend Science Club” for kids grades 4 through 8.
The Science Club starts Sunday, November 1, and will run every other Sunday through May.
The time and location for the class are from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Eastsound Waterfront Park (in good weather); and in the public school 8th grade science room (inclement weather).
There is no charge for kids of PTSA members; $10 per family otherwise (includes PTSA membership);
Space is limited; enroll now in the elementary school office
Parents will be expected to accompany the group and help at least three times between November and May!
This is primarily an outdoor exploratory class, which will be led by Russel Barsh of KWIAHT and Biologist Ann Harman. Budding scientists will learn about various aspects of local ecology, including amphibian life, mushrooms, shoreline exploration, bats, and more!
Special Thanks to KWIAHT (Center for Historic Ecology of the Salish Sea) and San Juan Nature Institute for making this program possible!
