||| FROM COLIN HUNTAMER for SAN JUAN COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS |||
Big Picture: Next week work will continue on the remaining sidewalks and we expect to start placing brick pavers on some driveways. As this work progress there we expect opportunities to open up additional areas of the project site to the public. The finishing touches on this project (lighting, landscaping, brick pavers, etc.) are laborious but essential to the character of Eastsound. Thank you for your continued patience.
Traffic Update: The northerly intersection at School Rd has been temporarily opened as a three-way intersection while work is performed in other areas. While the freshly paved roadway may look inviting, and many are eager to access the site, please remember to continue to respect areas that are closed to the public. Many holes, stakes, and hazards continue to exist throughout the work zone.
Local Businesses: You are encouraged to place mobile wayfinding signs along pedestrian access routes to help direct traffic around work zones. You may also want to consider how the completed project will change your exposure facing Prune Alley (and other side streets). Please reach out if you have any questions about elevation changes or other transitional frontage improvements.
Please help keep our residents and visitors safe and injury free by adhering to and protecting all approved traffic control devices.

I’m glad to see the intersection of Prune Alley and North Beach Road open. That will alleviate the burdensome traffic on Main Street by allowing drivers to access Madrona Road and North ‘Beach Road from the north, and to return via that intersection. Of course it will have to be closed again when asphalt and pavers are installed, but I hope that can be brief and temporary.
Anyone remember when bilbos was being created and the time creativity took? ( Oh My) we’re in for the long haul !
I’m saying thank you.. this was no small undertaking. I was one of the first to complain about the mess I saw.. because I saw a mess.
Now I see purpose with design. My lack of understanding didn’t change the flow that was accruing, it’s very difficult to change from what was without transition.
Mike and his crew has been very dedicated to their cause, to give us something with longevity. I want to be one of the first to apologize and thank you for some magnificent work.
In our industry, one important element is.. never do any harm. The end product is coming together very nicely, wether one agrees or not about the need for these improvements, as a business owner, tax payer, and past emergency responder.. this is way better for the whole of our community. Thank you all involved for the product we are seeing.
Colin, thank you for the personal touch of communication. Keeping our community informed.
Onward.
