Writer Shin Yu Pai will read Friday, May 12, at Darvill’s Bookstore. A 2014 Stranger Genius Award nominee, Shin Yu Pai is the author of eight books of poetry and numerous essays. Her work has appeared in publications throughout the U.S., Japan, China, Taiwan, The United Kingdom, and Canada.
Shin Yu has served as a poet-in-residence for the Seattle Art Museum and is former assistant curator for the Wittliff Collections. Currently, she serves as Head of the Pacific Northwest Obscura Society for Atlas Obscura and is the Poet Laureate of the City of Redmond.
Also a visual artist, Shin Yu’s artworks have been exhibited work at The McKinney Avenue Contemporary, The Paterson Museum, The American Jazz Museum, The Three Arts Club of Chicago, Center for Book and Paper Arts at Columbia College Chicago, and the International Print Center. She is a member of the Mother Load collective.
Founding editor of Lawrence & Crane publications, Shin Yu received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MA in Museology from the University of Washington, where she specialized in oral history.
The reading is part of the 2017 Artsmith Salon Series and takes place at 6 pm, followed by a Q&A with the author and reception with light hors d’oeuvres.
