There is a Land Far Away

— by Ian Clarke —

There is a land far away

Way over a storm tossed ocean
Islands set in a silver sea
Where the Orcas and humpbacks play

There is a land far away

Idyllic islands, painfully born
Encircled by a ring of fire
Extinct volcanos now proudly stand
Snow capped sentinels of this land

There is a land far away

Pebbles dropped in the Salish Sea
Mount Baker, like a mother hen,
Proudly gazes down upon them
Islands thrust up thro’ the ocean

There is a land far away

Shores with bleached driftwood strewn
Whilst orcas breach the Puget Sound
Dragon-flies dart and deer abound
In this eternal Eden

There is a land far away

Once home of the Samish
Threatened by the marauding Spanish
Claimed by the belligerent British
Now prospering under the Stars & Stripes

There is a land far away

Where Ninni and Richard stay
It’s just so kind
That you let us unwind
Now so sorry to leave it behind
