— from Margaret Payne —
The design is complete; the rocks and logs have been collected; $55,000 of the funding has been secured through a Lodging Tax Grant. Construction will begin as soon as the playground is fully funded — this summer, we hope!
In February, Orcas Islanders chose “Island Hopping” as the design for playground. In March, volunteers Ken Katz, Zack Leck, Chuck Greening, and Mark Mayer collected windfall logs donated by Moran State Park. The logs are currently being peeled and milled at Helsell’s West Sound Lumber. Rocks came rolling in from all over the island.
Your donation, through giveorcas.org (May 1 – 17) will help fully fund the Playground-on-the-Green, a nature-based playground for island and visiting children at the northwest corner of the Eastsound Village Green.

This is a nice idea. I hope it is designed ADA accessible and has things for disabled children as well. There are lots of rocks and logs to climb on all over Orcas for able-bodied children; it would be nice to have something accessible for on island for those who are mentally or physically challenged.
