You’re invited to the premiere of my choral work “Peace For All Time” on Thursday, June 8 at 7:30 pm in the Emmanuel Parish Hall in Eastsound!

It’s a 22-minute piece in which I’ve set to music much of the text of the speech John F. Kennedy delivered at American University on June 10, 1963. So this new choral work coincides with the 60th anniversary of this important speech.

The speech, which JFK delivered after the Cuban Missile Crisis, has become known as his ‘peace speech’, and it’s as timely today as it was then.

The performance will feature a 20-voice chorus. Soloists include Sharon Abreu, Laura Jean Miller and special guest from off-island, renowned baritone Philip Cutlip. It will also feature Scott Heisinger and Jennalise Triplett on violin, the amazing artistic director of the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival, Aloysia Friedman, on viola, Sasha von Dassow from Friday Harbor on cello, Linda Slone on flute, and Nels Magelssen on French horn. Our conductor will be the multi-talented Jim Shaffer-Bauck.

The June 8 event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 7:00. The performance will be finished by 8:00 and will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Donations received will benefit the Emmanuel Parish Hall’s monthly free dinner kitchen.

We’ll be videoing the performance, and excerpts will be shown during an online event commemorating the 60th anniversary of JFK’s peace speech on Saturday, June 10 at 8:30 am Pacific time.
