Join us as we welcome Paul Taylor’s Taylor 2 back to Orcas Center! Taylor 2 is the six-member company that brings Paul Taylor’s dances to venues of any size with all the artistry of the world renowned choreographer’s work – representing the wide range of athleticism, humor and emotion found in his dances. Bring the whole family for an innovative night of dance on Center Stage Friday, Mar. 31 at 6:30 p.m.

Paul Taylor established Taylor 2 to ensure that his works could be seen by audiences all over the world, unhindered by economic or technical limitations. Mr. Taylor looked back to the 1954 origins of the Paul Taylor Dance Company for the structure of his new company: six professionals with a particular gift for his style who perform his work throughout the world. New York Times raves: “Taylor 2 is a kind of a miracle. All of the dancers are considerable talents [who] unite fearlessness with skill.”

Taylor 2 is able to perform in smaller venues with more modest budgets than the larger Paul Taylor Dance Company without sacrificing any of the artistry that characterizes a Taylor performance.

Orcas Center is indeed one such small isolated community that would otherwise be unable to see Paul Taylor’s work. We are eager to have Taylor 2 grace our stage again and share the work of dancemaker Paul Taylor, one of the seminal artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, who continues to shape the homegrown American art of modern dance that he has helped define since he became a professional dancer and pioneering choreographer in 1954.

Taylor 2 engagements are customized to meet the needs of each community and often consist of master classes and lecture demonstrations in addition to performances. Through affiliations with the Lincoln Center Institute and New York City Center, the Company performs for thousands of additional students annually. Taylor 2 has also customized more intensive curriculum-based residencies in cities across the country. Taylor 2 will hold a master class for advanced dancers at Orcas Center 5:00 – 6:00 pm before the performance on Friday, March 31 on Center Stage! (Master class is included with ticket price, or $10 class only.)

Tickets for Taylor 2 are $27, $19 for students, $6 off for Orcas Center members, and may be purchased at www.orcascenter.org or by calling 376-2281 ext. 1 or visiting the Orcas Center Box Office open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12-2 pm. $5 subsidized tickets available at the Box Office.
