Updated Oct. 5

Orcas Island Prevention Partnership (OIPP) and the Readiness to Learn (RTL) programs are teaming up this year to sponsor parent networking meetings and information-sharing for parents of Orcas Island School District students.

The first meetings will be on Monday, Oct. 5 for the 4th and 5th grade parents in Room 427 of the Elementary School, facilitated by Marta Nielson (Director of OIPP) and Margie Doyle (Coordinator of RTL).

The 9th and 10th grade parents will also meet Oct. 5 in the school library. This meeting will be facilitated by Julie Pinardi (Staff-OIPP/RTL) .

Both meetings begin at 5:30. Snacks will be provided.

Information about new and/or continuing  programs from RTL and OIPP will be presented with details about Family Literacy Month Activities and the Family Emergency Fund (RTL) and a new community-wide  program for youth, grades 5 -12 — Natural Helpers (OIPP).

As in the past, parents would then be free to create their own discussions on topics important to them. The facilitators will maintain the spirit and intent of the meetings —  to provide support, networking, information and an opportunity for parent discussion.

The facilitators will help guide the discussion (so that it stays on track), help parents clarify their issues and help determine if their concerns are shared by other parents.

Future meetings are scheduled for:

Oct. 12
2nd and 3rd grades in back of school library
6th grade in school library

Oct. 13
7th and 8th grades in school library

Oct. 19
Kindergarten-1st grade in classroom
11th-12th grade in school library

All meetings begin at 5:30 p.m.  For further information, contact Margie Doyle at 376-1566, or Marta Nielson at 376-1547.
