||| FROM DAVID TURNOY |||
For the last two years in May we have had the honor of hosting a Native American Canoe Journey on Orcas, and we have this wonderful opportunity again this year.
There will be a welcoming ceremony when several Native American canoes arrive at the Olga dock on Wednesday, May 22, at about 3:00 PM. As part of the welcoming celebration, there will be a street fair with Orcas vendors selling their wares and local talent providing entertainment, all at the Olga Community Club grounds starting around 2:00pm and running until about 5:00pm.
Highlighting Orcas hospitality, a community potluck dinner for locals and guests will begin at about 5:00pm, and we hope you will all participate. We had a wonderful turnout and selection of dishes last year, provided by our generous Orcas folks.
Starting around 6:00pm, there will be an evening program referred to as “Protocol”, which is open to everyone.
Potluck information
- Please contact Geri Turnoy by email at davidgeri@rockisland.com or text at 503-548-7845 by May 15, as to whether you will be bringing a salad, entrée, or dessert. Please leave your name and contact information.
- Please provide a small card that identifies the ingredients in your dish, so we can prevent allergy problems.
- Please bring your potluck dish to the Olga Community Club by 4:30pm, so we can begin serving around 5:00pm.
Volunteers needed with:
- setup on Wednesday in the early afternoon
- parking during event
- cleanup after event is over
- other tasks as they come up
- finding housing for some guests who are unable to camp. If you are willing to volunteer a room or two in exchange for meeting some interesting people from different parts of the world, here is a special opportunity. Thanks so much for helping to show our guests our island hospitality.
Please contact David or Geri Turnoy at the above email or text information if you are willing to help with this event or if you have any questions.
