— from Orcas Recycling Services (ORS)–

With the goal of providing more convenient and regular collection of household hazardous waste, ORS/The Exchange, in partnership with San Juan County, has installed a new high-tech hazardous waste containment unit at the Orcas Transfer Station.

ORS will hold the first locally-managed collection event on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to households only (not businesses).

There will be no charge to drop off household hazardous items. Oil-based paints and stains will be accepted as hazardous waste. There will be a small fee for latex paints, which will be recycled. Gasoline and “unidentifiable products” will not be accepted at this event, although they can be brought to the next annual County-wide collection event in June 2019. Businesses are also welcome at this annual event.

Visit the ORS/Exchange website https://www.exchangeorcas.org/household-hazardous-waste/ to learn more about what you can bring, and what you can’t. You can learn more about ORS’ latex paint recycling on their website here: https://www.exchangeorcas.org/paint-recycling-now-available-at-the-exchange/.
